The Detroit Auto Show is back in January this year. For the occasion, a tradition is reborn, namely the unveiling of the winners of the NACTOY (North American Car and Truck of the Year) awards there.
At the Los Angeles Auto Show, held last November, we were treated to the unveiling of the finalists. The results are now in, as the three winners have been announced in each of the major categories examined by the jurors: car, van and utility vehicle of the year.

NACTOY Pickup Truck of the Year 2025
In the van category, the Ford Ranger won. The latter benefited from a major refresh during the year, an update which brought it back into the fray in its category. This Ranger victory will certainly be celebrated with great fanfare in the Ford offices, because this is the fifth consecutive year where one of the brand’s pickup trucks has won the NACTOY jury. The model succeeds the Super Duty, the Maverick, the F-150 and the F-150 Lightning with this palm.
The Ford Ranger beat out the Ram 1500 and Toyota Tacoma for the title.

NACTOY Utility of the Year 2025
As for utility vehicles, it was the Volkswagen ID.Buzz that won everyone over. The German firm’s electric van stood out ahead of the Chevrolet Equinox EV, as well as the Hyundai Santa Fe, two other models which greatly impressed.
For Volkswagen, this is a first victory in this category.

NACTOY Car of the Year 2025
Finally, on the car side, it is the Honda Civic hybrid which beat out the Kia K4 and the Toyota Camry, two models which were completely redone during the year 2024, in anticipation of 2025. For Honda, it is a fifth title in this category; a fourth for the Civic, while the Accord midsize sedan holds the other.
This year marked the 31st anniversary of the NACTOY North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year awards.
The winners, announced today (Friday), were selected by 50 automotive journalists from North American media in a three-stage voting process.
