GSI Pontivy lost 1-0 to Vire on Saturday evening at the Pierre Compte stadium. Despite a valiant defense and several opportunities, the Pontivyens were unable to avoid defeat.
Under freezing temperatures but in a packed stadium, GSI Pontivy managed to contain the local attacks at the start of the match. The first five minutes saw a solid Morbihan formation, resisting multiple Viroise offensives. On the other hand, Bouaziz even attempted a first strike but Deschateaux intervened.
Pontivy mainly proceeded on the counterattack, but lacked technical accuracy in the last move. Laraba, in the 36′, received a yellow card for a dangerous intervention, followed by a second warning for Pontivy and Le Callonnec in the 38′, after a late tackle. Despite a first period where the Virois largely dominated, the two teams returned to the locker room with a goalless draw.
Vain efforts in the second half
In the second half, fatigue was felt, and the GSI tried to exploit the few flaws left by the Viroise defense. Guimard also conceded a warning, before Vire opened the scoring through Hugo Bretagne. Despite the efforts to come back to the score, notably on free kicks like that of Et-Touguani, Pontivy did not manage to equalize.
At the end of the match, Kawczinski missed two opportunities for Vire to double the lead, keeping Pontivy alive. However, the GSI did not have enough opportunities to reverse the trend. At the end of the match, repeated fouls and time wasting earned Virois players several warnings. But the score no longer moved. Vire won 1 goal to 0.
