To “end” the war in Ukraine, Donald Trump prepares a meeting with Vladimir Putin

Responding to “the political will” of the new American president to “resolve problems through dialogue”, Vladimir Putin declared that he was open to dialogue. Donald Trump intends to end the war in Ukraine “in twenty-four hours”.

As he prepares to take office on January 20, Donald Trump said Thursday that he was preparing a meeting with Vladimir Putin. The goal of this meeting is to end the war in Ukraine. Already during his presidential campaign, the American billionaire had promised to put an end to the Ukrainian conflict “in twenty-four hours”. For now, he has already called for an “immediate ceasefire” and talks.

Welcoming the desire of the American president-elect to “resolve problems through dialogue,” the Russian president “has repeatedly stated that he is open to contact with international leaders, including with the President of the United States, including with Donald Trump,” Dmitri Peskov, his spokesperson, responded to the press. And to continue: “No conditions are required, what is necessary is a mutual desire and political will to resolve problems through dialogue.”

“President Trump is determined to end the war”

However, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its part affirmed that it “sees nothing new” in Donald Trump’s comments. “All of us in Ukraine want to end the war fairly for Ukraine and we see that President Trump is also determined to end the war,” commented the spokesperson for this ministry, Georgiy Tykhy, quoted by the Interfax-Ukraine news agency and relayed by AFP. According to him, kyiv is preparing for discussions with American officials “immediately” after Donald Trump takes office in ten days, including with Ukrainian head of state Volodymyr Zelensky.

Vladimir Putin, for his part, is still calling for Ukraine to surrender, for it to renounce joining NATO and for Russia to keep the Ukrainian territories for which it claimed annexation.
