As planned, Earth observation satellites were mobilized to monitor, analyze and quantify the dramatic consequences of the fires ravaging Los Angeles. Thanks to Planet satellites, images were captured of the Palisades and Eaton fires, providing precise data on the intensity of the fires, their spread and the repercussions on both the environment and local populations.
Rather than showing you “close-ups” of destroyed houses and neighborhoods ravaged by flames in Los Angeles, an exercise already well mastered by the 24-hour news channels, here is a complementary point of view with “large” satellite images. -corner “. Acquired by the satellites ofEarth observationEarth observation from Planet, they offer a unique perspective on the situation.
Climate: Planet will deploy a constellation of satellites to monitor CO2 emissions

These images of two of the five fires – named Palisades and Eaton – were obtained by two types of Planet satellites. The Palisades fire was observed by a SkySat satellite with a resolutionresolution of 50 centimeters, while Eaton was captured by PlanetScope (constellation of very small satellites Dove and SuperDove) with a resolution of 3 meters. Satellite images also illustrate the vulnerability of Los Angeles due to its geographic location, combined with several factors such as climateclimate dry, vegetation and urbanization.
These satellite images demonstrate the extent of the damage to both the environment and the population.
