First, the Pittsburgh Penguins had the upper hand by a score of 5 to 3 against the Edmonton Oilers and increased their lead in the standings ahead of the CH. They thus display a harvest of 44 points, three more than the Habs.
Sidney Crosby collected a goal and two assists in the victory, in addition to passing Joe Sakic for ninth place in scoring in National Hockey League (NHL) history.
In the defeat, Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl scored his 30e et 31e goals of the season. He is the first player to reach 30 in the NHL this year.
For their part, the Columbus Blue Jackets easily took the measure of the Seattle Kraken with a score of 6 to 2. Despite the absence of the first center of the team Sean Monahan, Dean Evason’s men united their efforts to retain their spot as the second team drafted in the East. They also claim 44 points in the standings.
In the victory, rookie Denton Mateychuk scored his very first NHL goal.
The Canadian can, however, thank the Buffalo Sabers who beat the Ottawa Senators 4 to 0. Goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 35 saves to record his second shutout of the 2024-2025 season.
Sabers forward Jack Quinn scored twice for his team, including a superb breakaway goal coming out of the penalty box.
Note that the Philadelphia Flyers and the Boston Bruins also suffered defeats on Thursday night.
The Canadian has a meeting with the Capitals in Washington on Friday evening, and will return to Montreal the next day to face the Dallas Stars.
