This Thursday, January 9, Stéphane Plaza is on trial before the 10th chamber of the Criminal Court for domestic violence. But what is his future on M6, a channel of which he has become one of the pillars for almost twenty years?

-

In September 2023, Mediapart revealed the testimony of three of Stéphane Plaza’s ex-partners, accusing him of domestic violence and describing attacks and problematic behavior. After being absent from his trial initially scheduled for August 28, the real estate agent, presumed innocent of the charges against him, will be tried this Thursday, January 9 before the 10th chamber of the Paris criminal court. Following this affair, what future does M6 have in store for him, the channel on which he has become one of the pillars for almost twenty years? Despite the revelations from Médiapart, “the management of M6 supports its presumption of innocence and these are just words”explained a relative of Stéphane Plaza to the Parisian on newsstands this Thursday, January 9. Far from letting down the animator, “she continues to broadcast the programs Search for apartment or house and House for sale every Saturday and Sunday afternoon”, noted the newspaper.

The former boss of M6, Nicolas de Tavernost, also explained last April that there was “nothing that could justify his exclusion” on a professional level. “There are no rape complaints . When you take someone off the air and then they’re cleared, it’s horribly difficult to put them back”, he added. But, he assured that “on a personal level, there will be a judgment and we will take our responsibilities”. An opinion shared by his successor David Larramendy. However, if he is still paid by M6 due to a “image contract”, the channel is broadcasting less and less the host’s shows who are seeing their audiences drop drastically. Thus, only two new broadcasts of Search for apartment or house are awaiting broadcast on M6. Since September, the channel has only scheduled one evening “carried by the real estate agent on November 1st when it offered around twenty per season in previous years”. The newspaper Challengeson newsstands this Thursday, January 9, added that its new shows were broadcast “drop by drop for several months, sometimes even in the second part of the evening”. It must be said that the presenter is linked to the channel until 2028. If he still appears on television, Stéphane Plaza is no longer in the Big Heads broadcast on RTL, belonging to the group M6 since the beginning of the affair.

Stéphane Plaza: his trial postponed, the reason revealed

Stéphane Plaza’s trial was initially scheduled for August 28. But it was ultimately postponed to 2025. Why? BFM had mentioned the real estate agent’s mental state. “Stéphane Plaza presents significant psychological manifestations against a background of severe depressive symptoms (massive anxiety, dark thoughts, sleep disorders)”, reported our colleagues who had been able to consult documents forming part of the file. A “hospitalization in a protected environment” was even considered. “Stéphane Plaza has already made contact with clinics”, revealed BFMTV. “In this very fragile context, his presence at his trial does not appear to be a good option.”, declared the doctor who examined him. The day before the scheduled trial date, August 27, Stéphane Plaza requested to be represented by his lawyers. One of his relatives had told BFMTV : “Even his doctors are resistant to the idea of him appearing in court.” Before adding: “He is at his worst psychologically because of this affair.
