the Council of Ministers broadcast live on television

The Council of Ministers, this Wednesday, January 8, 2025, was broadcast live on Malagasy television. For this first, the President of the Republic, Andry Rajoelina, was present. He demanded faster results from government representatives in the fight against rising rice prices and forest fires and wanted an acceleration in the installation of photovoltaic power plants.

It was a first, but not the last time that a Council of Ministers of Madagascar was broadcast live on television, this Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Well before the broadcast of this political meeting, the political journalists of the Grande island had heard of the intention of the President, Andry Rajoelina, to reorganize several members of the government.

This indiscretion turned out to be correct. Firstly, the President of the Republic explained his choice of live television. According to him, it will allow citizens to transparently follow the decisions of the Executive.

This choice clarified, the tenant of the Iavoloha palace recalled that he expects the government to find concrete solutions to the problems of water, electricity, to limit the rise in rice prices and to improve the fight against forest fires, notes L’Express de Madagascar.

The absolute emergency, during this televised Council of Ministers, was clearly the fight against the rise in rice prices. The President is aware of the unpopularity that an excessive increase in this basic food for the population generates. He demanded that the Minister of Commerce put in place the tools to regulate the price of this grass.

Before members of the government and the Prime Minister, Andry Rajoelina recommended the establishment of regulations on the margins of players in this sector: The population must be able to bear the price of rice”he emphasizes. “It is unacceptable that a minority dictates prices. There is no room for speculation in Madagascar”notes 2424.mg.

The minister hopes that the price of a “moke” (kapoaka in Malagasy) of local rice will quickly not exceed 1,000 ariary (€0.21) and that the same product, imported, will be priced at 800 ariary (0 .16 €).
