Marine Le Pen’s public tribute to her father. Marine Le Pen returned to mainland France late Tuesday evening after a three-day trip to Mayotte to see the damage from Cyclone Chido. She was on the return plane when the announcement of the death of Jean-Marie Le Pen broke. It was journalists, who were on the same plane, who learned the news of the death from those around him during a technical stopover of the plane in Kenya.

Relations between Jean-Marie and Marine Le Pen had deteriorated significantly over the years after the daughter’s accession in 2011 to the head of the National Front (FN), a party co-founded and led for 39 years by the father. However, family ties were reconnected in June 2018 on the occasion of the patriarch’s 90th birthday.

Funerals celebrated Saturday in Morbihan

The funeral of Jean-Marie Le Pen will be celebrated on Saturday January 11 in La Trinité-sur-Mer in Morbihan. The ceremony will be held “in family privacy”. Jean-Marie Le Pen had expressed in the past the wish to be buried in the family vault.

The Le Pen family remains attached to this town in Brittany. The leader of the RN deputies often spends her summer vacation in the family home.
