Le Mois Multi takes risks for its 26th edition

Under the sign of audacity and risk-taking, Mois Multi today unveils its program, which will run from January 30 to February 28. First edition of the new curator Christian Lapointe, this edition under the theme BODY IN.GAME.X promises to shake up the public.

Already last November, the Productions Recto-Verso team set the table, unveiling three “proposals[s] multidisciplinary[s] bold[s] and unclassifiable[s]», whose show Monitored and punishedfeaturing singer-songwriter Safia Nolin and her alter egoplayed by actress Debbie Lynch-White.

The relationship with the body is at the heart of the various performances presented during Mois Multi, an international festival of multidisciplinary and electronic arts.

“The body that plays, but also the one that we play too often. The one who suffers, who demands, who dares to denounce. Who dares to break free. Festival-goers are invited to live a series of experiences that question – and shake up – our relationship with the body through the issues it goes through,” we can read in a press release.

More than 60 artists from here, but also from the Netherlands, Belgium and , will display their creations in a multitude of venues, such as the Diamant, Premier Acte, the Grand Théâtre de Québec, the cooperative Medusa as well as various art galleries. Several proposals are free, as are the exhibitions.

This year, festival-goers will also be able to decide to present themselves more or less uncovered. Le Mois Multi will indeed sell balaclavas that can become toques.

Performances under the theme BODY IN.GAME.X

The theme of Multi Month, Body IN.GAME.Xexpresses both the desire to touch on issues affecting the body, but also the “place of the body as a tool allowing play”.

«[Plusieurs des œuvres à l’honneur] bring to our attention the fragility of the body, its strength, but also its presence as an altering effect of space, like time and its effects altering the body in turn. From physical prowess to self-dispossession, through what bubbles between beings, the 26th edition of Multi month under the theme BODY IN.GAME.X calls for the narration of the body in both gentleness and brutality,” illustrates Christian Lapointe, curator of Mois multi.

Several shows and performances will therefore be anchored in these universes. Multi Month begins with Antifragile? spectacle de piano, performance during which “things will happen where we least expect them”. This creation from the APA office represents the 6th collaboration of this “undisciplined DIY living arts workshop” with Mois Multi.

For people who like daring proposals, the performance of Vancouver artists Patrick Blenkarn and Milton Lim. These invite us, for a duration of 7:30 hours (with four intermissions), to “an exhilarating and delirious day of gaming», intended for people over 14 years old. Violence, sexuality and crude language feature in this “ingeniously political interactive experience”, during which the public will have an important role to play.

Artists from Quebec, like Natalia Fontalvo (Tracks) and Mélanie Demers (Public confession), will present “punching works”, which respectively address colonialism and sexual violence. This last subject is also found in the proposals of Julie Artacho (Avalanches) and Independent Theater (The children’s guardian).

Classic of the Month multi and shows for young audiences

Once again this year, Mois Multi invites spectators on February 21 to the Untamed eveningthe flagship event of the program. This evening, the result of a partnership with Phoque OFF and Cinéma Beaumont, will begin with the free presentation of a sound documentary.

In the movie That forgotten need to probe the sky, documentary filmmaker couple Nicolas Lachapelle and Eloïse Demers-Pinard present their quest to record the sound of the Northern Lights in Churchill, Manitoba.

In a second part, taking place in the Multi room of the Méduse cooperative and requiring the purchase of a ticket, artistic and musical performances by Sabrina Ratté and Roger Tellier-Craig, Birrd and the Massecar • d’Orion duo will notably dive in artificial intelligence, electronic music and even the Apocalypse.
