“Wicked” leads SAG Awards nominations

The big screen adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked arrived on Wednesday at the top of the nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG), awards considered a good indicator for the Oscars.

Wickedheadlined by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, earned five nominations, including “Best Acting Ensemble,” the SAG Awards’ most sought-after award.

Cynthia Erivo will compete for the title of best leading actress with Demi Moore, for her role in the film The Substanceby the French Coralie Fargeat, or even Pamela Anderson for The Last Showgirl.

The biopic A complete strangerabout the years of Bob Dylan’s youth, is nominated four times, while the film by French director Jacques Audiard Emilia Perezacclaimed at the Golden Globes, received three nominations.

These three films will be in competition with the Palme d’Or at Cannes Anoradirected by Sean Baker, and the papal thriller Conclavefor the “best ensemble of actors” prize, organizers announced Wednesday.

Despite its three Golden Globe awards, the film The Brutalista long portrait of an architect survivor of the Holocaust, who tries to rebuild his life in the United States, only received one nomination, that of Adrien Brody in the category of best leading actor.

The latter will notably face Ralph Fiennes for his role in Conclave or even Timothée Chalamet in A complete stranger.

On the television side, the series Shogunalready awarded at the Emmy Awards and the Golden Globes, is in the lead with five nominations.

These nominations were initially scheduled to be announced at a ceremony on Wednesday, but it was canceled due to the violent fires affecting Los Angeles.

The Critics Choice Awards ceremony, one of the events of the annual awards season in Hollywood, which was to take place on Sunday, was postponed on Wednesday for the same reason.

The SAG Awards are voted on by actors and are therefore considered a very good indicator for the Oscars. Actors constitute the most important college within the Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences, which awards the prestigious golden statuettes.

The ceremony will be held on February 23 in Los Angeles and will be broadcast on Netflix for the second year in a row.
