Major fire in Beaumont – La Voix du Sud

EMERGENCY. EMERGENCY. A building on Route du Fleuve in Beaumont was completely razed by fire at the end of the day on Tuesday, an intervention which required the intervention of nearly forty firefighters.

According to the director of the Beaumont Fire Department, Dany Lavoie, the firefighters came very close to succeeding in limiting the damage, except that the flames reappeared during the intervention. “We almost shut it down completely, to the point where we started to demobilize staff. By opening a few doors to gain access to the building, the process restored air to a home that had not been located. Everything then started again and we lost the building. »

Mr. Lavoie explains that several factors caused the flames to quickly spread to the building. “There were a lot of heat loads such as paper and furniture, which made movement difficult. It’s also a building that’s several years old, so nothing to help us and we lost a lot of equipment there too,” he summarizes.

The building, which housed two homes and an office space, was ultimately a total loss and had to be demolished using a mechanical excavator on Wednesday morning. A failure of the electrical system would be to blame, according to Mr. Lavoie. “It is certain that now that everything is destroyed, it will be more difficult to establish, but the first observations we made pointed us towards an electrical cause.”

The fire services of Saint-Charles and Saint-Michel were called in for reinforcements for the intervention, as were those of Honfleur and Saint-Anselme for the supply of oxygen cylinders.
