Events linked to a Robbie Williams biopic and Emilia Perez were postponed Tuesday because of fires that forced thousands of people to evacuate the hills above Los Angeles.
Several film premieres were canceled on Tuesday, January 7, as a spectacular “mortal danger” fire forced thousands of people to evacuate the hills overlooking Los Angeles and the upscale Pacific Palisades neighborhood.
The Amazon MGM and Universal studios have therefore made the decision to cancel the previews of the biopic Unstoppable about the disabled wrestler Anthony Robles and the horror film Wolf Man.
Paramount has also decided to postpone the premiere of Better Manan offbeat biopic of Robbie Williams, due to “the danger that threatens Los Angeles,” the studio said in a press release.
“Our thoughts are with those who have been impacted by these destructive fires. We encourage everyone to stay safe and follow the directives of law enforcement,” added a spokesperson for the studio.
An “Emilia Perez” event canceled
The Max platform also informed that the preview of its hospital series The Pitt was canceled. “The safety of our guests is our priority. We are grateful to the emergency workers who protect our community.”
Netflix also canceled an event linked to the music of Jacques Audiard’s film Emilia Perez in the presence of its main actress Karla Sofía Gascón and the composers Camille and Clément Ducol.
The fire broke out late Tuesday, January 7 in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, populated with multi-million dollar villas in the mountains northwest of the city. It has already devastated nearly 1,200 hectares.
-The authorities have identified “many structures already destroyed,” explained California Governor Gavin Newsom during a press briefing Tuesday evening. Around 30,000 people are under evacuation orders. No injuries were reported.
“We are safe”
Several celebrities live in this area of Los Angeles including Jennifer Aniston, Bradley Cooper, Tom Hanks, Reese Witherspoon, Ben Affleck, Adam Sandler, Michael Keaton, Miles Teller and director Michael Mann.
Actor James Woods was forced to evacuate his Pacific Palisades home, he announced on Twitter. “We are safe,” he wrote, posting a video on the social network showing the fire.
The families of several NBA figures are also among those evacuated. Lakers coach JJ Redick said his “family, my wife’s family, my wife’s twin sister (had) been evacuated.”
“With the winds looming, I know a lot of people are scared,” he continued before a game between the Lakers and Dallas. “I send them my prayers and hope everyone stays safe.”
A huge fire already ravaged the town of Malibu, not far from Los Angeles, last month. Several personalities such as singer Cher, actor Dick Van Dyke and actress Mira Sorvino were forced to leave their homes.
About 1,600 hectares and at least seven properties, according to authorities, went up in smoke in this fire called Franklin. The flames led to the evacuation of thousands of people.
