-Although heavy snow blanketed Merseyside, the Safety Advisory Group determined that Anfield and the surrounding area posed no safety concerns for hosting the fixture. “The Safety Advisory Group has taken into account the traffic conditions and weather forecasts and has deemed it safe to continue,” a Liverpool City Council spokesperson told the Manchester Evening News.
Additionally, all Liverpool FC staff headed to the stadium, ensuring preparations were underway for the match. Just before midday, the club released a statement confirming that the match against Manchester United would go ahead as planned. As images and videos circulated on social media showing the Anfield pitch battling the elements – covered in snow before being cleared for the match – anticipation began to build.
