Dani Olmo’s re-signing at FC Barcelona rejected

The Spanish Federation (RFEF) and La Liga announced, in a joint press release published this Saturday, their decision to reject FC Barcelona’s request to re-register Dani Olmo for the second half of the season.

According to Spanish media sources, this refusal opens the way to a possible transfer of Dani Olmo and young Victor, also affected by a rejected request. Both could join other clubs during the January transfer window, being now considered free from their contractual commitment.

The Monitoring Commission, made up of the RFEF and La Liga, justified its decision by relying on regulations prohibiting a player whose license has been canceled from returning to the same team during the same season.

On December 31, La Liga had already removed the names of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor from the official list of players registered for FC Barcelona. The reason given was the club’s inability to meet the necessary financial requirements. Neither player was selected for the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey against Barbastro, an amateur club, scheduled for this Saturday.

Riddled with debt, Barça signed a contract with Dani Olmo until December 2024, based on an exception allowing the replacement of a long-term injured player, in this case Andreas Christensen. The possible free departure of Olmo, recruited for nearly 60 million euros last summer, would represent a considerable setback, both on a sporting and financial level.

This season, Dani Olmo, aged 26, has scored five goals in La Liga and one in the Champions League, confirming his importance in the Blaugrana squad, currently third in the league and second in their group in C1.
