Tunisia – Increase in gas demand: 12 ships scheduled to avoid any shortage

The Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy announces that it has taken exceptional measures to ensure the continuous supply of domestic gas cylinders to the local market throughout the national territory. This approach takes place in a context marked by increased demand, linked to the cold spell currently affecting the country.

In coordination with its affiliated companies, notably the Société Tunisienne des Industries de Raffinage (STIR) and the National Oil Distribution Company, AGIL Energy, as well as with the filling units of Radès, Bizerte and Gabès, the ministry has strengthened the teams and intensified production operations. All units are working without interruption and have mobilized their maximum storage capacity to meet demand.

Furthermore, rigorous coordination is maintained with the Ministries of the Interior and Commerce as well as with private companies in the sector, in order to guarantee continuity of supply in all regions of the country.

The ministry also announced the scheduling of 12 ships carrying additional gas cargoes, which will be distributed across the three supply centers by the end of the month. To date, a ship loaded with 5,300 tonnes has docked at the port of Bizerte and is being unloaded, while another, carrying 4,000 tonnes, docked yesterday at the port of Gabès. A third ship, with a cargo of 13,000 tonnes, is expected at the port of Radès on December 31.

To meet exceptional demand, the ministry recalls that the average daily consumption of domestic gas bottles is usually 1,600 tonnes. However, a record of 2,400 tonnes was recently recorded, an increase of 60%.

The ministry reaffirms its commitment to respond effectively to all needs, particularly in exceptional climatic conditions, and calls on citizens to avoid any excessive storage in order to allow equitable distribution throughout the territory.
