Latest news on Dani Olmo’s recording with LaLiga

FC Barcelona are currently going through a crucial period to secure Dani Olmo’s disputed LaLiga registration, or risk losing their summer team star.

On the eve of their first match of 2025, Hansi Flick expressed his frustration with the situation at the club while remaining optimistic about the Spanish midfielder’s eventual registration.

“Regarding Dani, I don’t want to comment on that because it’s not my role. I was in contact with Laporta during Christmas as well as today, and I have confidence in the club. I always see that from positive way, and we will see the resolution that will be made and where we will be. Currently the situation is not easy,” Flick said in a press conference before their match against Barbastro.

In this context, Olmo’s agent, Andy Bara, expressed his hope that the management of FC Barcelona finds a solution and manages to successfully enlist the player.

“I believe in president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco, and I have confidence that they will find a solution for Dani. It’s a huge club,” he told GiveMeSport.

However, Dani Olmo’s camp was not the only one to speak out about his case. Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone appeared to object to any late registration of the midfielder, saying the issue caused tension among other LaLiga teams.

“If he has to continue playing, then welcome; if the rules don’t allow him to play, he won’t play. We, as coaches, need the rules to be followed as proposed for all teams and that this space be respected,” expressed the Argentinian technician.

According to reports, some LaLiga teams have threatened to take legal action if a late registration for Olmo is allowed, which would only escalate the scandal in Spain.

FC Barcelona failed to register Olmo before the December 31 deadline imposed by LaLiga, and although there were reports that they could ask for an extension, they revealed that they had again submitted the player registration application.

Hours later, LaLiga confirmed that the Catalans had missed the deadline, meaning Dani Olmo will be unable to play from January 2.

FC Barcelona did not comply with the rules of Financial Fair Play necessary to extend Olmo’s registration, despite selling some VIP boxes at the Camp Nou and generating profits of more than 100 million euros.

Given the lack of registration, Olmo could become a free agent and negotiate with another club without FC Barcelona receiving a cent. Additionally, the Catalan club will have to cover the midfielder’s salary until 2030 if he chooses to leave the team.
