Two vehicles burned in Montreal; suspects are being sought

The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) is investigating two arson attacks on vehicles that occurred Friday in the boroughs of Ville-Marie and Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension.

In both cases, witnesses report a suspect seen at the scene of the fires, but no arrests have been announced.

Around 2:30 a.m., a vehicle was engulfed in flames while it was in a parking lot located on Rue Lspérance, near Rue Ontario, in the Ville-Marie borough.

The fire was brought under control quickly and caused no injuries, but the vehicle was a total loss.

A suspect was observed near the vehicle when the fire broke out and fled before the police arrived.indicated agent Véronique Dubuc, spokesperson for the SPVM.

Later, around 7 a.m., in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension district, the police were called to reports of a fire starting on a vehicle parked on the 20e Avenue, not far from rue Villeray.

Here too, firefighters quickly brought the vehicle fire under control, which was considered a total loss.

Fortunately, no one was injured, and there were no reports of any damage to property, said the SPVM. According to witnesses, at least one man was reportedly seen in front of the vehicle before the fire started, suggesting arson.

The investigation was transferred to the arson module of the SPVMwhich will attempt to collect evidence to establish the causes and circumstances of this fire.
