The system of “peak” and “off-peak” hours, used by many French households to reduce their electricity bill, is about to evolve. The Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) has announced a review of this system from summer 2025, with the aim of better aligning time slots with the real needs of consumers and peaks in electricity production. , particularly solar.

Mid-afternoon slots
Currently, off-peak hours, which offer advantageous rates, are mainly located at night, between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. However, certain times are considered unsuitable, such as those around 7 a.m. or 5 p.m. From mid-2025, mid-afternoon slots, particularly in summer, should be introduced to take advantage of the abundance of photovoltaic energy at these times. This change takes place in a context of energy transition and rationalization of electricity consumption. If this pricing option remains expensive as a subscription, it becomes profitable from 30% consumption during off-peak hours, a threshold that the CRE wishes to preserve. Each affected consumer will be informed of the changes by their supplier. This reform aims not only to encourage energy savings, but also to better distribute demand on the electricity network. The adjustments should be spread over two years, until the summer of 2027.
