Arson in Ville-Marie: a car ravaged by flames

Montreal police are investigating the suspicious fire of a vehicle which was engulfed by flames in the parking lot of an apartment building in Ville-Marie very early Friday.

Around 2:30 a.m., the fire broke out in the parking lot of an apartment building located on Espérance Street, near Ontario Street, in Montreal, reported the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) .

It was a witness to the scene who went to warn patrol officers when he saw the car engulfed in flames.

Even though the fire was brought under control by firefighters, the vehicle is considered a total loss, according to the SPVM, which also reports minor damage to the building.

Fortunately, no one was injured, and no damage was reported to nearby homes, it was also reported.

According to investigators, the case would be considered suspicious as witnesses reported seeing a suspect very close to the scene, who would have fled before the police arrived on the scene.

“The vehicle will be examined to determine the causes and circumstances surrounding this event,” said the SPVM spokesperson.
