That’s it, it’s (normally) this year that the Switch 2 will be released, eight years after the arrival on the market of the first Switch of the name. First photos of the console’s motherboard have just appeared on the web: everything suggests that mass production of the Switch 2 has been launched.
The manufacture of Nintendo’s portable console seems to have indeed begun: “stolen” photos of the console’s motherboard, published on Reddit, are proof that the manufacturer is starting to increase stocks in preparation for the market launch of this Switch 2. And for us, this is the opportunity to confirm certain details of the future Nintendo console.
Swtich 2: technical characteristics almost confirmed
The size of this motherboard, first of all, seems to confirm the larger dimensions of the Switch 2 compared to the first version. This is a major argument in favor of the supposed 8-inch screen of this new console.
The photos then show the SoC of the Switch 2: this is a custom chip especially for Nintendo and its console (as was already the case with the Tegra X1 of the first Switch, moreover), a die-shrink – that is to say a reduction in the size of the original chip using better engraving finesse – of the Tegra T239 from NVIDIA. More precisely, the inscriptions that we can see on this approximately 200 mm² chip seem to indicate that it is Samsung which is responsible for manufacturing it, potentially in 5 nm EUV.
With an Arm Cortex Ampereall accompanied by 12 GB of LPDDR5X-7500 memory and 256 GB of storage space, the Switch 2 could (almost) hold its own on the Steam Deck. The progression compared to the first Switch is obvious, but let’s not forget that we are talking about a console released in 2017 which already did not integrate early components… In any case, everything bears to believe that the Switch 2 will indeed see the light of day in 2025, to the delight of players, young and old.
