PM Modi condemns ‘cowardly’ terror attack in New

Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the terrorist attack in New , USA on Wednesday (January 1, 2025), calling it “cowardly”.

In a post on social media platform

“We strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack in New Orleans. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families,” Prime Minister Modi said on social media platform comfort in recovering from this tragedy,” he added.

US President Joe Biden posted on X shortly after the attack, saying: “My heart goes out to the victims and their families who were simply trying to celebrate the holiday. There is no justification for violence of any kind either, and we will not tolerate any attack on any of our national communities.”

A U.S. Army veteran drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year’s Eve revelers on a festive street in New Orleans’ famous French Quarter on Wednesday, killing 15 people and injuring 30 others. The truck carried an Islamic State (ISIS) flag.

Police and law enforcement agencies identified the attacker as Shamsud-Din Jabar, a 42-year-old U.S. citizen. A native of Texas, Jabar is believed to have served in the U.S. military in the past. Jabar, who got out of the truck and started shooting after the attack, was shot dead by law enforcement.

Police said Jabar was trying to run over as many people as possible. He was driving at a “very high rate of speed” and in a “very intentional” manner, and was intent on creating the carnage and damage he caused, New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said.

An explosion by a Tesla Cybertruck later that evening outside a Las Vegas hotel owned by US President-elect Donald Trump fueled speculation about a link to the attack. New Orleans, law enforcement agencies investigating possible links.
