WhatsApp no ​​longer works on these Android smartphones since 2025

The year 2025 begins, and bad news for many WhatsApp users. Messaging is no longer supported by several Android smartphones since January 1st. Is yours affected? We reveal the complete list to you.

  • Since January 1, several smartphones running Android KitKat (and previous versions) are no longer compatible with WhatsApp

In 2025, several Xiaomi smartphones are no longer compatible with WhatsApp. But Android models are not the only ones affected, Meta messaging draws a line on different iPhones. For what ? Because these devices are too old, unable to best manage new featuresnotably based on AI.

More precisely, these are old smartphones running Android KitKat which are no longer compatible with WhatsApp. Not surprisingly, this version is more than 10 years old. As a reminder, LineageOS 22.1 allows you to install Android 15 on phones that are too old, just to slightly extend their lifespan.

Which smartphones are no longer compatible with WhatsApp?

For the manufacturers concerned, we find Samsung, LG, Sony, Motorola and HTC. Among them, many no longer make smartphones. Here is the complete list of devices that no longer have the right to WhatsApp since January 1, 2025:

As for the smartphones Xiaomi who draw a line under WhatsApp, here is the list:

As a reminder, it is from until May 5, 2025 that WhatsApp will no longer be compatible with these iPhones:

  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus

Several solutions are available to you, the most logical of which is to switch to a more recent smartphone. But don’t forget to save your data otherwise you risk losing them when purchasing a new model. Otherwise, it is entirely possible to use the web version of WhatsApp.
