Gaza: Islamic Jihad Claims Israeli Hostage Tried To End His Life

An Israeli hostage held by Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Gaza tried to end his life, said the spokesman for the terrorist group’s armed wing, Abu Hamza, in a video published Thursday on Telegram. A medical team from the organization intervened, thus preventing him from dying, claimed the spokesperson for the Al Quds Brigades, without giving more details on the identity or current state of the hostage.

The hostage would have tried to end his life three days ago due to his psychological state, the spokesperson added without providing further details. The latter took the opportunity to accuse the Israeli government and its Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, of setting new conditions which led to the “failure and delay” of the negotiations for the release of the hostages.

The man was on the list of hostages to be released under the terms of the first stage of a possible deal with Israel, he said. The armed wing of Islamic Jihad took the decision to strengthen security measures for the hostages, Abu Hamza added.

In July, Islamic Jihad’s armed wing already claimed that several Israeli hostages attempted suicide after the terror group began treating them in the same way it said Israel treated Palestinian prisoners.
