The year 2024 ends for the famous Hollywood actors, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, with a divorce. After eight years of legal struggles, according to “People” magazine, they each signed separation documents.
One of Hollywood's longest conflicts finally seems to be coming to an end: Brad Pitt (60 years old) and Angelina Jolie (49 years old) have finally found common ground after eight years of proceedings. It was Jolie's lawyers who reported the information to the American magazine “People”. The two stars reportedly signed divorce papers on Monday, December 30.
Angelina Jolie says she is exhausted, but relieved
Actress Angelina Jolie filed for divorce on September 19, 2016, citing irreconcilable differences after two years of marriage and twelve years together. In recent years, the couple has faced custody battles over their children and property. In a statement to People magazine, Jolie's lawyer, James Simon, said: “It's been over eight years since Angelina filed for divorce. She and the children left all the possessions they shared with Mr. Pitt, and since then, Angelina has focused on finding peace and healing for her family. This is just one step in a long process that began eight years ago. In all honesty, Angelina is exhausted, but relieved that this milestone is finally behind her.”
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, once considered Hollywood's golden couple as “Brangelina,” met in 2005 while filming the film “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”. Their engagement was announced in April 2012, followed by marriage in 2014. They have three adopted children and three biological children together. Their separation, unexpected to the public, was triggered by an argument on a private plane during which Pitt was allegedly violent towards the children, according to Jolie. Four months after this media foray, the couple released a joint statement, indicating their willingness to resolve aspects of their divorce privately and to handle the details of the separation confidentially with the assistance of a private judge.
The battle for their domain continues
However, a long legal path then opened up. In April 2019, a judge declared the couple as single. In May 2021, a judge awarded Pitt joint custody, but that decision was overturned two months later due to a conflict of interest on the judge's part. The couple continued to fight over custody of the children, as well as legal issues regarding their estate and their $164 million Château Miraval wine.
Pitt filed a lawsuit against Jolie in February 2022 for selling her stake in Château Miraval, to which she responded with a counterattack, accusing him of waging “a war of vengeance” against her. This dispute continued into 2024, and in November, Jolie won a legal victory, with a judge ruling that Pitt must reveal documents.
