For New Year’s Eve, the Amicale de la Francophonie multiculturelle du Manitoba intends to adopt a new tradition with the first edition of the gala Afro Beat and Eat Party.
The organization is preparing to welcome some 200 members of the community during an evening that promises to highlight Afro-descendant and Canadian cultural, musical and gastronomic diversity.
We are all excited to welcome the New Year in French
declares Alphonse Lawson, the president of the Amicale. We have an absolutely fantastic DJ and the icing on the cake is that the gala will be honored by the presence of the iconic Franco-Manitoban artist, Kelly Bado.

It’s a first edition, but we want to organize this gala every year to create this human warmth. You know, most families who arrive here don’t have an ideal setting to be able to celebrate like they would in their country of origin.
L’Amicale thus offers a menu where everyone will find the flavors and aromas of their native land, ranging from Senegalese, Cameroonian and Ivorian cuisine to a full scan [de cuisine] Canadian
explains Mr. Lawson.
It’s a multicultural menu, where we really invite all Canadians, all Manitobans to come and taste these dishes.
The gala Afrobeat and Eat Party will be held from 8 p.m. on December 31 at 257 Osborne Street in Winnipeg. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Entrance for children under 10 is free and volunteers are provided to keep them busy, promises Mr. Lawson.
