His next job was as Cookie Man at the Harriston L&M, where he greeted families and offered their children cookies to help parents with the children while shopping. Everyone loved shopping and seeing the Cookie Man. As the years went by, he was no longer able to hand out cookies and he began to have a pocket full of coins that he handed out to children. Garry worked at L&M for over 30 years. In 2005, Garry and his wife took over Suzie’s Restaurant in Harriston. He was the receptionist when he was not at L&M. He talked and talked to everyone who entered the restaurant. He was also a very good diver.
Garry was also a member of the Legion for over 50 years and a member of Kinsmen and K-40.
Garry loved photos, as you all know, and it was his passion to collect and talk about the past year. He has quite a collection of photos and diaries spanning many years. He loved his small town of Harriston and the people he spoke with regularly.
