The Swiss won after a rare error from his teammate Marco Odermatt.
Franjo Van Allmen seemed on course to win after the big names failed to do better on the famous Stelvio course.
But Money, gone 19ecompleted an even more daring race to finish 0.24 seconds ahead of his compatriot and achieve a Swiss double.
Monney, 24, had never been on a World Cup podium. He had only finished twice in the top 10 – 10e in Wengen in 2023 and eighth in Kitzbühel last January.
“I don’t know what to say, it’s a crazy day,” Monney said. I can’t find the words, but it’s fabulous and I’m happy. It will be one of the best memories of my life. »
Canadian Cameron Alexander finished third, 0.72 seconds behind Monney.
The British Columbian obtained the same result on this track last year.
Odermatt finished fifth, 0.80 seconds behind Monney. The reigning downhill champion had to do quite a climb to slip into the top 5.
In the middle of the course, Odermatt made an unusual error, which sent his skis in opposite directions. The three-time general classification champion still managed to stay on the track.
Odermatt was thus able to remain at the top of the downhill rankings and the general rankings.
“I’m lucky to be standing,” Odermatt said before congratulating his young teammates.
“It’s truly incredible. They ski so well, they deserve everything that happens to them.
“On our team, no one is the boss,” he added. We’re all on the same level, we try to help each other, we try to have fun. They are all very good guys, very funny. »
