During this event, Dussey had a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrovduring which they discussed the prospects for cooperation between their two countries. The opening of a Russian embassy in Togo demonstrates Moscow’s growing interest in Africa. It should make it possible to intensify exchanges between the two countries in key areas such as energy, education, security, trade, culture and politics.
For the Togothis new stage is part of a strategy of diversification of partnerships. The government aims to build strong relationships with countries capable of offering beneficial cooperation. This is evidenced by recent talks with several other nations, notably the Qatarthe Chine, South Africa and the Nigeria. This diversified approach reflects Togo’s desire to maximize economic, political and cultural opportunities. By broadening the scope of its collaborations, Lomé intends to play a more active role on the international scene, while stimulating its national development.
