French savers are preparing to receive their interest for 2024 on their regulated savings accounts. Like every year, these payments will take place on the night of December 31 to January 1. In 2024, Livrets A, LDDS, and LEP enabled savings to be made at record levels, marking an exceptional year for savings.
Interest paid in the coming days
From the first day of 2025, banks will credit the interest generated by your savings accounts. The Livrets A and Livrets de développement durable et solidaire (LDDS) alone should represent more than 17 billion euros in interest paid, according to figures from the Caisse des Dépôts. If we include the Popular Savings Booklets (LEP), this amount exceeds 20 billion euros.
These impressive figures reflect a year once again marked by a strong propensity to save. The attractive rates of these products, combined with high inflation, have encouraged many households to keep their savings in these savings accounts.
Interest rates in effect for 2024
- Livret A and LDDS : The interest rate remained fixed at 3%, a particularly competitive remuneration compared to the pre-inflation period when this rate was around 0.5%.
- LEP : This booklet, reserved for low-income households, offers a rate of 6%, making its return significantly more attractive.
- PEL : For Home Savings Plans opened before 2011, the rates remain advantageous, often higher than those of traditional savings accounts.
These rates have largely contributed to the success of regulated savings accounts in 2024, even if a drop is expected in 2025.
Savings still high
According to INSEE, the savings rate of French households reached 18.2% in the third quarter of 2024, well above the average of past decades (between 15 and 17%). Confinements and economic uncertainty have largely favored this trend, although experts anticipate a slight decline in 2025 with the gradual reduction in yields on regulated savings accounts.
In conclusion, the start of 2025 will be marked by a nice surprise for savers: significant interest, rewarding a record year for regulated savings in France.
