Thousands of French households have received an important alert from EDF by SMS and email. And rest assured, this is not a phishing attempt but an official communication from the electricity supplier.

At the end of the morning, customers received a message by SMS and email indicating that “tomorrow, Friday December 27, is a ROUGE TEMPO day”. This is not a trivial notification as it will have a significant impact on the budget of the households concerned.

The price of electricity increases this Friday, December 27 at EDF

The alert targets 875,000 households who have opted for a Tempo electricity contract. An advantageous offer for a large part of the year which includes certain special days called “red days”. During these times, the price of the kilowatt hour shows a spectacular increase and a consequent increase of the electricity bill.

On this day of December 27, the price will be almost multiplied by five ! Subscribers will see the price per kilowatt hour increase from 0.1609 euros to 0.7562 euros. For example, for a 60 m² apartment which consumes 13 kWh on average per day, the daily bill increases from 2.09 euros to 9.83 euros.

It is worse for a large household of 120 m² inhabited by four people with an average consumption of 30 kWh per day: the daily bill increases from 4.83 euros to 22.69 euros.

To minimize the financial impact of this increase on December 27, several recommendations should be taken into account. Avoid using energy-intensive household appliances such as the washing machine and dishwasher, reduce the heating temperature by one degree and unplug as many electronic devices as possible.

The duration of these red days is never communicated in advance. The increase can extend up to five consecutive daysmaking it crucial to monitor your electricity consumption during this time. Fortunately, there are solutions to keep an eye on it like the Linky meter.
