Trapped in a fire in Le Havre, a woman jumps out of the window and is seriously injured

Updated at 12:50 p.m. We know a little more about the circumstances of the fire on rue Clovis in Le Havre. According to the fire officer present on the scene, the fire, the origin of which remains unknown, started from the stairwell, causing a significant release of smoke.

Around ten people were treated by emergency services, including a woman in her twenties, who escaped from the window. She was rushed to Monod hospital. Two other people were also taken there for examination after having smoke inhalation.

The fire was quickly brought under control by firefighters. No victims were found in the building.

At least one person was seriously injured in a fire that occurred in Le Havre, this Thursday, December 26, 2024.

A person jumps to escape the fire

According to the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis), firefighters were called around 9:40 a.m. for a fire in a three-story building of rue Clovis in Le Havre. Heavy smoke is coming from the roof of the building.

In the building, “several potential victims including one threatening to throw herself out of the window”.

And when help arrived, the person (whose gender and age are currently unknown) had taken action. She was taken care of in critical condition and transported to Monod hospital.

Gas and electricity cut

The residents were sheltered, notably in the neighboring pharmacy, while seven people inconvenienced by the fumes were taken care of.

The firefighters carried out a search for possible people missing. For now, according to our information, no other victims have been found in the building.

During the intervention, electricity and gas were cut off in the area. Around forty firefighters were mobilized to respond to the incident.
