VIDEO – A boat exploded at the Fort Lauderdale marina on Monday, killing one person and injuring five others.

At least one person died after the engine of a boat moored at the marina in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, exploded on Monday evening. Surveillance camera video shows an explosion inside the ship propelled the deck into the air before the craft burst into flames. Fort Lauderale emergency responders said they received emergency calls after 6 p.m. before the fire spread to a second yacht docked inside the harbor.

A spokesperson for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said Wednesday that the deceased was Sébastien Gauthier, a 41-year-old from Quebec. Divers found his body several hours after the explosion. The other five passengers were taken to hospital, three with traumatic injuries. Firefighters said once the vessels are removed from the water, they can be examined more closely by investigators and get a better idea of what really happened. For the moment, the causes of the incident are still unknown.
