A failed ministerial Morocco, an exaggerated indignation: Xavier Bertrand's soap opera

Ah, the great anger of those who saw themselves as ministers before their time! Xavier Bertrand, having just recovered from the failure of François Bayrou's entry into the government, launches into a media crusade with numerous press releases and accusations. The former Labor Minister strongly denounced a “shameful alliance” between the prime minister and Marine Le Pen. Exactly that. It almost seems like a soap opera, if it weren't so predictable.

The UMPS misunderstanding has struck again: under the banner of the eternal “republican consensus”, the former tenors of the big machines divided between left and right continue their ballet of distribution of Moroccans. Xavier Bertrand thought he was at the center of this distribution. Serious error. Here he is forced to watch the party from afar, with an empty cup in his hand.

Anger for posterity

On Monday morning it was a furious Xavier Bertrand who published a thunderous press release on Twitter. “I refuse to participate in a French government formed with the approval of Marine Le Pen,” he proclaimed, as if he had erected himself as the last bastion of political morality. But no one is fooled: Bertrand complains because he wanted the Ministry of Justice. Not Agriculture, nor any Secretariat of State. No, Justice, with all that this entails in terms of prestige and possibility of action.

François Bayrou, visibly irritated, responded quickly. According to him, Xavier Bertrand wanted to impose a “violent” vision of Justice. And remember that this ministry is not there to “wage war” but to “pacify”. A heartfelt dig, which suggests that the president of Hauts-de- may have some personal scores to settle. Marine Le Pen, for her part, did not have to push too hard: her lieutenants simply recalled that Bertrand had once declared that he wanted to “break the jaws” of the RN. Not very calm, to be honest.

In the evening, Xavier Bertrand's entourage overtook him: Bayrou allegedly “lied” by denying any influence of the RN on the composition of his government. Ah, what a great game! But this indignation seems to be above all that of those who see their dream of greatness evaporating. Because what does Bertrand really blame? Does Marine Le Pen have an influence on the political landscape? But it is the French's choice, whether they like it or not. The Navy has the means to censor, it does not deprive itself of it. The real question is why Bertrand thought he could impose his passage by force.

The eternal recycling

This scene also reveals the state of the political class. Macronie's eternal failures, the right and even the left continue to gravitate around the circles of power, hoping to grab a tip-up seat. But what do they actually propose? Nothing new. It's always the same refrain: indignation at variable geometries, ephemeral alliances and enormous egos.

So Xavier Bertrand, furious at not having obtained his “royal ministry”, prefers to be a martyr. But the truth is more banal: in this great theater that is French politics, he was just a secondary actor who hoped to steal the show. This Monday the curtain fell. And the room didn't applaud.
