On Friday 13 December, the liturgical memory of Saint Lucia, a young martyr from Syracuse, the parish community of Saint Lucia in Palestrina gathered to celebrate the feast of the titular of the church.
The morning, starting from 7am, was marked every hour by Masses, presided over by various priests, invited by the parish priest Father Igor Natndou, and by the Trinitarian fathers themselves, who take care of the parish. Like every year, numerous faithful from the city participated, a sign of a strong and deep-rooted devotion towards this saint.
The anniversary culminated with the solemn Mass at 6pm. Monsignor Feliletto Gabrielli, vicar general of the diocese of Palestrina, celebrated. In his homily Msgr. Gabrielli recalled that the church of Santa Lucia is also dedicated to the Holy Trinity, and like everyone else i santi lodino e diano glory to the Trinity. She then recalled some elements of the biography of the courageous young Sicilian, martyred under the emperor Diocletian in 304. Witness of the love of Christ, Lucia placed her trust and her hope in the Lord and sheds light on us, who we are today pilgrims of hope.
The party, thanks to some volunteers who prepared biscuits and sweets put on sale to recall the market which was held on 13 December, was also the occasion to raise funds for the needs of the less fortunate.
