Milan, 19 December 2024 – During theper Italian Cup match between Inter and Udinese, in the 40th minute, a spectator from the front rows fell ill. The Nerazzurri captain, Alessandro Bastoni, was among the first to notice thanks to the excited reports from the supporters present in the sector of the first blue tier. Udinese goalkeeper Piana was also with him and subsequently in the area to take a corner kick. Referee Massimi immediately stopped the match.
The match was suspended to allow the supporter to be rescued, nurses and emergency workers immediately intervened to first perform cardiac massage before using the defibrillator. The rescue efforts were coordinated by Alessandro Geddo, head of the hospital’s health service Meazza stadium.
Great suspense among the 53 thousand spectators present at the stadium, but the emergency then ended. The match restarted after six minutes and the home team, already leading 1-0, thanks to Arnautovic’s goal, doubled the lead with Asllani. At the end of the rescue operations, the fan was stabilized and taken to hospital. The game thus resumed afterwards about 6 minutes of interruption, while the stretcher with the rescuers left the field from tunnel under the south curve. At the recovery of the Nerazzurrialready leading 1:0 thanks to the goal scored on the half hour by Arnautovic, immediately doubled their lead by scoring the second goal with Asllani ipotecando thus the passage to the quarter-finals of Italian Cup.
