It seems that time stopped in August, when the Rome-Al-Qadisiyah negotiation for Paulo Dybala. Today Galatasaray appears. Four months have passed and 965 minutes played, spread across eighteen appearances, with two goals and two assists as the spoils; Three coaches have also passed, De Rossi, Juric and Ranieri, who had to manage Dybala with the burden of the contractual clause (automatic confirmation for another year after 50 percent of appearances over the three-year period in the Giallorossi, 2022- 2025, with a minimum playing time of 45′ per match, starting in the starting eleven), a goal that can be reached soon: at the moment Dybala has played 95 of the 131 matches played by Roma. If the season ended today, the renewal would be a done deal, but the calculation will have to be done at the end – if Roma reach the finals of the Italian Cup and Europa League it will take another 14 – when the percentage of 50 percent (with those methods) it will be well defined.
MONEY SAVED
From the weight of Joya’s presence, Ranieri he wanted to get out of it right away: “If he’s well, he’ll play, I’ll do as I want,” said Sir Claudio as soon as he arrived in Rome. No sooner said than done. With him Paulo played in all six matches under his technical guidance, from 2 minutes in Napoli to 90 against Lecce or 76 against Como. But today things risk changing: after the Arabs the Turks arrived. Galatasaray have seriously stepped up (in the past also for Pellegrini) and the first step was taken with the footballer, summoning his manager, Carlos Novel, to Istanbul, supported by the intermediary, expert in Turkish affairs, George Gardi, who in the past dealt with transfers in Turkey of Zaniolo, Mertens, Osimhen and also attempted to move Nicola Zalewski to Istanbul.
Dybala has never expressed his intention to leave and in recent months he also asked the club to be able to extend the contract, spreading the large sums of the salary over several years. He received no response from Rome on the matter, a clear sign that here we are going beyond technical issues. Nobody discusses the player’s skills, the problem is risking budgeting for another year (or more) a contract worth around fifteen million gross and the intention is to invest that money in another player, perhaps less strong but physically more reliable and younger (Dybala has just turned 31): the names of Raspadori and/or Beto are known. Faced with this, Paulo certainly won’t be the one to oppose, also because Galatasaray’s proposal is of a certain level: we’re talking about ten million per season, more than he currently receives at the Giallorossi. The eventual, possible conclusion of the deal will make all the components happy. But, there is a but. Roma would like, as in the case of the Arabs, not only to save but also to monetize. Galatasaray wants to take him for free, or at most by paying a minimum compensation. For now, no official communications from Türkiye have arrived in Trigoria. To understand how to proceed, they are awaiting a proposal for the player and the club. The next step will feature the Argentine’s manager, Novel, who will have to appear in Trigoria and talk to Florent Ghisolfi. We will know more by the weekend.
BALZARETTI IS BACK
In Rome there is not yet a CEO, but in the meantime the club has reopened its doors to Federico Balzaretti (who Ranieri had already tried to bring to Nantes in 2017), who will take care of the scout area and follow the players on loan. In the meantime, Dybala only has one need, to play tonight and who knows if Ranieri will want to rely on him to overcome Sampdoria.
Rome, Balzaretti returns: he will take care of the scout area and will have the role of Loan Manager
For sure, if he wants to leave, it won’t chain him and the property is even more than this idea. A speech that applies to all those famous big names of the old guard, from Paulo to Pellegrini up to Cristante and Mancini, questioned by Friedkin after the Como debacle. «Everyone does their game and their job. When Dybala is well he makes the difference. It’s nice to have him and put him on the field but if he has other priorities, two people need to agree. If the guy doesn’t want to stay and there is a possibility… I only want players who are happy to be here. If there is someone, and I’m talking in general and not just about Paulo, who doesn’t feel comfortable and was hoping to play more or something, I only want players who are here with the desire to fight match after match.” Speech that doesn’t make a difference.
