The 23-year-old Ukrainian footballer could enter the eye of the storm if evidence to the contrary does not refute the outcome of a test that was carried out a couple of months ago
According to the Ukrainian newspaper TribuneMykhailo Mudryk, the winger costing 70 million euros, reportedly tested positive in a doping test carried out in October after a match against Chelsea. The banned substance found in the outsider’s analysis is not specified by the Ukrainian newspaper, which also reports that Mudryk has requested a countertest, the result of which will be known in the coming days.
The 23-year-old Ukrainian international, it should be remembered, was signed by Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023, but has failed to establish himself at Stamford Bridge.
This season he has been used by Enzo Maresca in just 15 games, scoring three goals, all in the Conference League. The Ukrainian has not played since December 1st and has missed the Londoners’ last four matches.
The player himself confirmed that he had been contacted by the FA regarding the positive result following an anti-doping test: “I can confirm that I was advised that a sample I provided to the FA contained a banned substance.”.
“This was a real shock, as I have never used any banned substances or broken any rulesand I am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened.”
“I know I haven’t done anything wrong and I hope I can get back on the pitch soon. I cannot say more now due to the confidentiality of the trial, but I will do so as soon as possible.”
Chelsea’s confirmation
“Chelsea Football Club confirms that Mykhailo Mudryk has been contacted by the English Football Association (FA) in relation to a result following a routine anti-doping test carried out on a urine sample.”
“Both the Club and Mykhailo fully support the FA’s testing program and all our players, including Mykhailo, are regularly tested. Mykhailo has categorically confirmed that he has never knowingly used any banned substances. Both Mykhailo and the club will work now with the relevant authorities to establish what caused the negative result.
The Club does not intend to provide further comments.”
