The body of an MRE found more than 40 days after the floods

Of the total death toll of 224 following the floods in Spain, the number of victims within the Moroccan community in Valencia is now 8 dead. In this region most affected by storm Dana, the remains of a national from northern Morocco were discovered on Thursday in a landfill. The search continues to find another fellow citizen, Moroccan Consul General in Valencia, Saïd Drissi El Bouzaidi, told Yabiladi.

The consular representative stressed that procedures were underway for the repatriation of the body of the victim, aged 59, to Morocco. Since the south-east of Spain was hit by storm Dana and its consequences last October, residents of the region have had great difficulty returning to normal life. If many local residents have not yet been able to return to their homes, some are trying as best they can to resume their economic activities in the shops, added the official.

Meanwhile, the Moroccan relief teams deployed on site continue their work on the ground. “The drainage systems have been cleared, to move on to cleaning the garages of mud and debris from the floods,” said the consul general.

Since last November, a first Moroccan convoy has mobilized 24 pumper trucks and 70 operators to support Spanish relief efforts and come to the aid of the Valencia region. A second is made up of 13 trucks, including 12 pump cars and a repair and tool truck.
