The day 150 young people became citizens

Remind young adults of the importance of citizenship, put words to what freedom, equality, fraternity really means, and explain the rights and duties entrusted to them by the Republic, this is what Sophie Roques (PS) did ), deputy mayor of in charge of civil status, Allô town hall and welcoming new Marseillais. It was during the official citizenship ceremony, held this Monday evening, that the electoral card was solemnly hand-delivered to 150 young Marseille residents who turned 18 this year.

« The Republic only exists because there are citizens », Underlined the assistant in front of the assembly of young adults. During her speech, the elected official reminded everyone of the great principles of the Republic and to what extent this democracy can be abused if it is not protected, especially in the current political situation.

« It gives you the right to vote and this right is the most precious of all », insisted Sophie Roques, considering that this right is not an acquired fact on which we must rely. It is also a way to bring young people back to the polls by reminding them of their rights and duties as citizens.

Marie-Émilie and Pauline, two young adults who came to collect their electoral card, both found this official ceremony quite impressive and important to prepare them for the role that awaits them, in particular the fake polling station. Associations were also present to learn how to decipher a political program or carry out citizenship actions.
