Death of Marisa Paredes: the Spanish actress of “Stilettos” and “All About My Mother” has died at the age of 78

The muse of director Pedro Almodovar, Marisa Paredes has died at the age of 78.

Spanish actress Marisa Paredes, whose career was notably marked by the six films she shot under the direction of Pedro Almodovar, has died at the age of 78, the Spanish Cinema Academy announced on Tuesday.

Six films with Pedro Almodóvar

Born in Madrid in 1946, Marisa Paredes had a childhood marked by Francoism. After leaving school at 11 and going on a theater tour at 16, she became an actress.

It was in the 1960s that Maria Paredes rose to fame, notably by filming six times for director Pedro Almodóvar between 1983 and 2011.

Holder of the National Cinematography Prize from the Spanish Ministry of Culture

Maria Paredes chaired the Spanish Cinema Academy between 2000 and 2003 and enjoyed international success thanks, among other things, to her appearances in the feature films of Pedro Almodovar, who notably directed her in “Stiletto heels”, “All about my mother” et “Talk with her.”

Maria Paredes has been awarded four Forogramas de Plata, three Sant Jordi prizes and an honorary Goya. She is one of seven actresses to date to have received the National Cinematography Award from the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
