Israel closes its embassy in Ireland

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 16, ARMENPRESS: Israel announced the closure of its embassy in Ireland. Israel explained its decision by “Ireland’s extreme anti-Israeli policy,” reports Armenpress, citing The Associated Press.

In May, Israel recalled its ambassador from Dublin after Ireland, along with Norway, Spain and Slovenia, announced recognition of the state of Palestine. Last week, the Irish cabinet decided to officially intervene in South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel before the International Court of Justice, which accuses Israel of carrying out genocide in the Gaza Strip. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said of the embassy closure that “Ireland has crossed all red lines in its relations with Israel.”

Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris called the decision to close the embassy “extremely painful”: “I totally reject the assertion that Ireland is anti-Israel. Ireland stands for peace, human rights and international law,” Harris wrote in X.
