Christmas 2024. As the holidays approach, why the price of chocolate is increasing again

It is thanks to cocoa beans, then crushed, that our dear chocolate is made. A product which is increasingly causing debate and causing consumers to hesitate as its price increases. But for some experts, its history reflects its value.

A black gold whose price has never been as high as this year.

Due to poor harvests, the price of this raw material has exploded by 117% in one year.

In stores, this translates into a price increase of between 4 and 10% among chocolatiers. “We’ve smoothed everything out, we’re not going to put this tablet at this price and another at a different price. The cocoa work is the same. All countries are affected, it comes from droughts, floods“, explains Béatrice Dumouchel, manager of the Auzou Les Carmes store.

The Christmas period is crucial for chocolatiers, it represents between 30 and 40% of annual turnover. Despite this price increase, customers always put your hand in your wallet.

I see that the ballotin has almost taken a euro. I’m more into reasoned consumption and using good products rather than buying anything at a low price.
