Should we expect an increase in the price of this Apple service?

Apple is known for charging higher prices than its competitors. If the Apple brand manages to justify it with physical devices, by offering better components, this price difference is much harder to explain for online services, like iCloud+.

However, Apple’s remote storage offering is experiencing a real surge in prices. In some regions of the world, prices have increased by 15% in recent months, and things could get even worse. If for the moment, France is rather spared from this increase in prices, it could well be caught up in the coming months.

Apple’s calculation method

Present on 5 continents, Apple must always recalculate the price of its services and products based on the cost of living in these regions of the world. So the same iPhone will be cheaper in some countries, and more expensive in others. These nuances are also calculated based on the value of a currency in relation to the dollar.

However, in recent months, the American currency has been very strong, to the detriment of all others. In the coming weeks, Apple could review the prices of its services in Europe, for good reason: the trend between the euro and the dollar is not to the advantage of the old continent.

Since the election of Donald Trump, the American currency has gained strength. This has already had consequences in Japan in particular. For example, the 200GB iCloud+ subscription went from ¥400 to ¥450 per month. Reduced in euros, this is equivalent to a change from 2.5 to 2.8 euros per month.

iCloud+: a free service

As a reminder, iCloud+ is an extension of iCloud, Apple’s free online data storage service. Thanks to it, it is possible to keep 5 GB of data online, in a completely secure space. To have more storage space, you must subscribe to iCloud+. In France the price is €0.99/month for 50 GB, 2,99 €/monthper month for 200 GB and 9,99 €/month per month for 2 TB.
