Emotion in Orsay after the death of a former municipal agent, killed while trying to prevent the theft of his motorcycle

The town of Orsay (Essonne) is in mourning. Jérémie Greco, 54, was killed on the night of Thursday December 5 to Friday December 6 after being hit by a motorist while trying to prevent the theft of his motorcycle. This crime worries the residents of the town.

“We can’t understand that. It’s serious and I think they’re not punished enough,” says Véronique, manager of the Aquarelle Café, to BFM Île-de-, referring to the three suspects. , aged 27 to 31, who were indicted and placed in pre-trial detention for these facts.

An employee of the establishment shares this feeling of insecurity: “It leads to a feeling of insecurity. It can happen anywhere, we are never safe from anything.”

“He was a real nice guy.”

Very involved in the community life of the town, Jérémie Greco was passionate about . He devoted part of his time to the CA Orsay Rugby Club as a volunteer.

“At the club, he was someone very invested, very discreet, always very caring, at the service of the club and the players who were there all the time. He was a real nice person,” testifies Baptiste Fleureau, technical manager from the club’s youth center.

On Facebook, the club paid tribute to the former municipal agent: “Jerem, you will remain forever engraved in our memories and in that of Racaou. We will miss you so much dear friend”. A fund was opened to finance his funeral.

A former municipal employee appreciated by all

In addition to his associative investment, Jérémie Greco was a municipal employee for many years. Network and IT assistant, he also worked for the sports department and the early childhood department. His former colleagues remember him as a very pleasant man.

“Because he was always smiling, always in a good mood and we could confide in each other. What I keep is Jérémy’s laugh,” recalls Marie-Hélène, a former colleague. She adds: “It’s not human what happened.”

David Ros, senator from Essonne and former mayor of Orsay from 2008 to 2024, underlines the important role that Jérémie played within the municipality:

“He was very close to the staff, he was also a union representative so he had this desire to serve the interests of the staff.”

Referring to his death, he continues: “That he is the victim of a theft is already not normal, but what’s more, he pays for it with his life in the conditions such as it happened, that’s is the most unjust thing on Earth, so it’s a great sadness.”

A psychological unit has been set up by the municipality to support residents in the face of this tragedy. An investigation was opened by the Évry public prosecutor’s office and three suspects aged 27 to 31 were indicted and placed in pre-trial detention.
