The large fire ladder was still deployed at the bedside of the metal carcass of a hangar in the Saint-Sauveur wasteland, in the middle of the morning of Wednesday December 11, 2024 in Tours.
Around 7 a.m., an alert was received by the emergency services after heavy smoke emanating from one of the main buildings was seen. “I smelled a very strong smell, when I went out, I saw a kind of dense and very black cloud”says the one who notified the Firefighter Treatment and Regulation Center. An abandoned warehouse of nearly 600 m2 was destroyed.
A tumultuous evening
According to our information, the premises were occupied at the time the fire broke out. When the police and firefighters arrived on site, they had disappeared. No injuries were reported.
According to testimony collected on site, the evening of Tuesday, December 10 was tumultuous under the hangar: against a backdrop of alcohol and drug consumption, an argument broke out. Should we see this fire as a deliberate act? This Wednesday, it was a sofa taken from one of the “dwellings” which allegedly caught fire.
The old lodges, in particular, were redeveloped several years ago by squatters. Since the summer, two people had found refuge in this former industrial site slated for destruction, bordered by Boulevard Churchill and Rue Auguste-Chevallier.
The place, covered with tags and nibbled by brambles, once hosted the 244 project and its cultural companies.
