Cher and ‘Mary Poppins’ star Dick Van Dyke forced to evacuate

The star of Mary Poppins99, is among the people forced to evacuate their homes due to the fire that has ravaged the city of Malibu, not far from Los Angeles, since Monday, December 9.

The former cinema glory Dick Van Dyke, 99 years old, famous in particular for his role in Mary Poppins (1964) and countless television series, announced this Tuesday, December 10 on Facebook that he was forced to flee his home while the surrounding area of ​​Malibu was ravaged by a fire.

“Arlene (his wife, Editor’s note) and I evacuated our animals safely, except for one cat who escaped as we were leaving. We pray that he recovers and that our community survives these terrible fires,” he wrote on the social network.

According to information from the New York Times, singer Cher, another famous Malibu resident, was also forced to leave her residence located on the Pacific Coast Highway. Her agent told the daily that the artist had taken refuge with her animals in a hotel last Monday.

1,150 hectares destroyed

Actress Mira Sorvino, Oscar winner in 1996 for her role in Maudite Aphroditeis also one of the personalities forced to leave their homes. “Praying for my friends and neighbors in Malibu. I hope you are safe. We evacuated overnight with the kids and pets,” she said on X.

The surroundings of Malibu, city and beach of the stars near Los Angeles in the west of the United States, have been ravaged since Monday evening by a fire which led to the evacuation of thousands of people. More than 1,150 hectares and seven homes in this area have already gone up in smoke, according to the authorities.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, approximately 20,000 people are subject to evacuation orders or alerts asking them to prepare to evacuate. It was a “traumatic” event for the city, said Mayor Doug Stewart.
