War in Ukraine | Trump calls for ‘immediate ceasefire’ and negotiations

() US President-elect Donald Trump called on Sunday for an “immediate ceasefire” and negotiations to end the conflict in Ukraine, on his Truth Social platform.

“There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations should begin. Too many lives have been lost in vain, too many families have been destroyed, and if this continues, it could turn into something bigger, and much worse,” he wrote, asserting that Ukraine has lost “ridiculously” 400,000 soldiers and “many more civilians”.

In his message, Donald Trump, who will take office on January 20, also assured that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “would like to conclude an agreement” to end the war.

“Zelensky and Ukraine would like to reach an agreement and end the madness,” he wrote following his meeting in Paris on Saturday with Mr. Zelensky.

“I know Vladimir well. It’s time to act. China can help. The world is waiting! », concluded Mr. Trump.

Donald Trump’s November presidential victory has cast doubt on the future of US support for Ukraine in its war against Russia, with just weeks left to provide billions of dollars aid already budgeted before the Republican’s inauguration.

On Saturday, the US Secretary of Defense announced new military aid to Ukraine estimated at $988 million.

Donald Trump has been very critical in recent months of the billions of dollars released by the United States for Ukraine.

The president-elect promised to resolve the war between Kyiv and Moscow even before taking the oath of office in January, without ever explaining how.

Ukraine’s European allies fear a disengagement of the United States in this conflict or even American pressure for an agreement to the detriment of Kyiv.
