The construction site for the future Nîmes Congress Center is in full swing. The structural work of this 8,500 square meter building, which began in March 2023, is practically complete. “We installed nearly 500 tonnes of steel for the framework” specifies Lionel Goudal, project director at SOGEA. The second phase of the work will begin at the beginning of next year. “We will install the windows and adorn the exterior facades with stones” specifies Thomas Hervé, one of the architects.
Around 60 million euros
In all, 5,000 stones will be fixed. “It's Gardoise stone. It is extracted from the Moulézan quarry. It is then polished and shaped before being installed. It's a white stone. The same one that was used to build the Maison Carrée” explains Lionel Devaux-Chabane, one of the architects. Around fifty trades will take turns in the construction of this future Congress center. The end of work on the future Nîmes Congress center is scheduled for next October. Inauguration a month later.
Total cost of the project: 59.3 million euros, including 33.7 million euros covered by the city of Nîmes.
