Real Madrid lost 2-1 at Athletic Club and remains four points behind Barça.
Real Madrid was defeated on the San Mamés pitch by an Athletic Club superior in all areas who won thanks to Berenguer (53rd) then Guruzeta (80th) against an equalizer from Jude Bellingham (78th).
Real Madrid starters
Thibaut Courtois (5/10) : the Real Madrid goalkeeper delayed the deadline and was caught off guard by Asencio's non-action on the first goal. His restarts are too imprecise against such a well-organized team.
Lucas Vázquez (4/10) : wait-and-see on the first goal, Vazquez must do better to close the axis. Useful in duels but too poor offensively.
Raul Asencio (4/10) : the bar was too high for Asencio who made a big mistake in the first half and was then mainly responsible for the first goal conceded by faking his own goalkeeper. Some solid interventions but it doesn't make up for his mistakes.
Antonio Rüdiger (6/10) : he caused a penalty and was fair in his interventions. It's hard to score very high given the collective performance but he's the best on Real Madrid's side this evening.
Fran Garcia (3/10) : a lot of inaccuracies with the ball despite a desire to project forward that is rare in his team. 17 lost balls for a full-back is far too many. Defensively, he wasn't the worst but that's not enough.
Aurélien Tchouaméni (3/10) : his return brought nothing. Manhandled on the shoulder by Inaki, carried around by the stalls and calls from Sancet and a dead weight on the restart, the Frenchman would have done better not to put on the crampons.
Dani Ceballos (6/10) : with the right state of mind, Ceballos tried to pull Real Madrid forward but often found himself without a solution after good ball catches on the restart. He came out inexplicably because he was the best midfielder tonight for Real Madrid.
Federico Valverde (2/10) : initially transparent performance for the Uruguayan who hid throughout the match. Then, with an insane risk-taking in the 80th minute, he gave the Basques 2-1. A match to forget.
Jude Bellingham (5/10) : the Englishman runs everywhere but he runs nowhere. He is the link between the midfield and the attack in this system and he is nowhere to be found in the Basques' half. The Englishman saved his match with a new goal from the surface, finally projecting himself at the end of the match and a second half better than the first.
Kylian Mbappé (3/10) : he is too little available and misses a clear opportunity at the hour mark. He then misses a penalty, leaving the impression of never having believed he could score him in his non-reaction. He is simply desperate and hopeless. He saved his match by alerting Agirrezabala with a magnificent strike on the Bellingham goal.
Rodrygo (5/10) : hard to blame the Brazilian, the only offensive danger on the Real Madrid side and author of 4 key passes. He gave himself and wanted to launch the offensive but he found himself too alone facing an army of Basque defenders.
Coach's note:
Carlo Ancelotti (3/10) : completely defeated tactically by his counterpart Valverde, the Real Madrid coach had no solution to turn things around. Not helped by individual errors of course, but the content proposed by his team is at the level of the negative result and his tactics and his poorly felt changes did not favor Real Madrid's chances either.
Real Madrid substitutes
Brahim Díaz (entered in the 55th minute in place of Ceballos) (6/10) : Interesting entry from Brahim who provided an offensive link that was missing in the first half and which allowed Bellingham and Rodrygo to express themselves.

Ferland Mendy (entered in the 70th minute in place of Fran Garcia) : Not rated
