“The municipalities of Luttenbach-près-Munster and Stosswihr, located in the Haut-Rhin department, have been recognized as being in a state of natural disaster for the floods and mudslides of July 31, 2024,” the prefect of the department announced in a press release. .

That evening, torrential rains had flooded, damaged and deprived homes and businesses of electricity, prompting around a hundred interventions by firefighters in around fifteen communities in the region.

“The abnormal intensity of the phenomenon was analyzed with regard to the cumulative precipitation during the event,” the press release specifies. The state of natural disaster noted by decree may give rise to the right to guarantee against material damage for policyholders covered by their insurance contract. »

A period of 30 days from December 3

People residing in these municipalities have an additional period of 30 days from December 3, 2024, date of publication of the decree in the Official Journal, to file a disaster declaration and submit the estimated state of their damage to their insurer, if they have not already done so.

Victims who have already made their declaration before the publication of the decree do not have to take any particular administrative steps, but must contact their insurance correspondent again to prepare for the arrival of the experts.
